Some suggestions
We must move quickly because our year is at the end and we start our holidays mid December. We will be away until the beginning of February...so we must leave all ready to start next year.
I suggest we start first with a list of questions your students may have about Brazil and our students will do the same about Italy. You can post the questions here and so will I and we can then discuss them in groups in class and then each school will compose a single paragraph containing all the answers and will post it on Beeonline.
I love music but do not know much about it so I count on you to illuminate me on this subject. I know many of the teachers and students are keen on it so I will speak about it at school. Who knows we can arrange some of the students from both schools to make a little presentation of a potpourri of Italian and Brazilian music at the conservatory? This would be wonderful!
As for the Brazilian fashion in the 19th century, this is also a fascinating subject. I will see if there are any students who would like to do a research on it.
I will talk to my headmaster today and will see what he prefers: a fax or n e-mail. I will send it to you , either the number or the address as soon as I have his answer.
I was thinking also about our students interviewing some Italian immigrants who have been living in Brazil. Your students could also make a list of questions. Are there any issues your students would like them to cover so that we can compose a joint interview?

A suggestion
Maria Pia...I'd like to know which teachers are planning to participate actively in the project and how they plan to insert it in their school programs. We could meet at my virtual office at Tappedin (a virtual community for educators), where we could regularly meet to exchange papers, suggestions and even bring the students so that they can meet.
In English, I thought we could do heroes, rebels and the women of the risorgimento : Elizabeth Barret Browning, Margaret Fuller, Georges Sand, Jessie White Mario and obviously Anita.
I would like to order the book Unfold the South, which looks exactly what we may need to supplement us in the project. Have you heard of it?

Social Sciences invited
I have invited my Social Sciences colleague to join us in this space. Alain is particularly interested in the Italian immigration in Brazil and this is what he is going to be working on with the students next term. He will be posting in the blogger soon, either in French or in English. :-)
I will contact the French and the History and Geography teachers so that they can express their ideas as well. The more interactive this becomes, the better we will get to know each other and guide our students through this project.

The trip
I have written two itineraries for our trip and have asked two tour agencies to price them.
Everything will depend on that: what we visit and the kind of interaction we may have with the local people. I will send it to you, Maria Pia and see what you and others can suggest so that our learning adventure becomes reality.
I have sent the invitations for the teachers to enter this blog. I am sure Maria Pia that you can coach them how to open one and to post their first message. If not, drop me a line and I will try to help them with screen prints as I did with you.

Brainstorming and surfing
Surfing on the net I came across some interesting links which opened new possibilities. Genoa was elected the European City of Culture for 2004.
and while browsing through their conferences I found this one, which will be taking place when we are around. It might be an interesting option to see what is going on there.

I am very curious about the meeting Maria Pia has had at the Liceo today. I hope we can welcome them next year as they are planning to do with us.
I spent quite some time working on the itinerary and contacted some good friends from the European Schoolnet and British Council for advice and to see if we can get some help. I received some suggestions which I will consult and discuss with my headmaster.
I also visited some travel agencies to get an overall idea of the cost involved (flight+ bus+visits+ meals/lodging). We will definitely have to organize some fund-raising events to bring it down and I must start working so as to see who could sponsor us - either by alloting some general funds or financing precise items, like a visit somewhere, meals, logding, etc. This is how it worked for the USAConnection.
I suggested the students start getting to know each other by opening a blogger so they can chat on Beeonline. Once we get the green light, we can then give them tasks connected to the project so that they can work on them in italo-brazilian groups.
